About this trip
Four days in El Salvador covering the capital's centre, a volcano hike with valley views, and a choice of how to spend your final full day.
You'll walk San Salvador's renewed city centre, see the Rosario church and national palace, and stop for a coffee poured by a local barista before heading up San Salvador volcano for views over the valley.
On the last day you choose your own adventure: either a Maya archaeology tour taking in two ruin sites, or a day among the mountain towns of Ataco, Apaneca and Nahuizalco, where much of the country's best coffee is grown.
What you'll do
- Walk San Salvador's city centre and see the Rosario church and national palace
- Try a coffee made by a local barista
- Hike San Salvador volcano for views over the valley
- Choose between a Maya ruins tour (two sites) or the coffee towns of Ataco, Apaneca and Nahuizalco
- Easy pace, suited to families and small groups
- Partially guided, with one day left to your own choice of itinerary
Worth it if you want knowledgeable, attentive guides and a safe introduction to San Salvador's main sights. Think twice if you need a social group experience or expect upscale hotels.
- Guides consistently praised as informed, friendly, and genuinely passionate about El Salvador's history and culture.
- Airport transfers and day tours well-organised and reliable, though confirm return transfer is included when booking.
- Hotels are functional but dated; expect worn carpets, aging showers, and limited walkability to restaurants or shops.
- Itinerary lacks clarity on daily tour duration; ask upfront so you can plan evenings and manage expectations around travel time.
