About this trip
Eight days through Costa Rica's rainforests, cloud forests and coastline, with room to shape some of the time yourself. This is a country that has kept much of its primary rainforest intact, so wildlife spotting and outdoor time are the main event.
You'll head into the cloud forests of Monteverde, hike to waterfalls, and unwind in the surf town of Manuel Antonio. It's a fully guided small-group trip with a relaxed, easy pace, though some optional activities ask a bit more of you physically.
What you'll do
- Spot monkeys and sloths in the cloud forests of Monteverde
- Hike to hidden waterfalls
- Unwind in the surf town of Manuel Antonio
- Free time to explore beaches on either coast
- Immerse yourself in Costa Rica's protected rainforest
- Rated easy, but moderate fitness helps if you want to join every activity
- Many activities happen outdoors, so expect insects and occasionally rustic conditions
- Weather is hot and humid year-round, wetter from May to October, and cooler at higher elevations and at night — pack layers, a waterproof jacket and sun protection
Worth it if you get a strong guide and book direct to avoid hidden costs. Think twice if you need reliable logistics or dislike homestays without daily structure.
- Outstanding guides like Carol, Liza and Jamie transform the experience with knowledge, patience and genuine enthusiasm.
- Hidden daily costs in USD add up significantly; some tours, transport and meals aren't included despite package price.
- Accommodation inconsistent—missing basics like glasses, TV, broken curtains; one family got 3 rooms instead of 4 promised.
- Homestays can mean full days with nothing planned; some prefer visiting areas rather than staying idle there.
