About this trip
The Galapagos are remote and strange in the best way, and this eight-day trip gets you into them properly, moving between islands by boat and exploring on foot with a naturalist guide who knows the wildlife inside out.
Expect close encounters rather than distant sightings — sea turtles in the water, giant tortoises on land, sea lions sprawled about town like they own the place. Days are spent cruising and exploring, evenings are for winding down on land.
There's real substance beyond the animals too — a look at conservation work on Isla Santa Cruz, a cooking class for a classic Ecuadorian soup, and a full day hiking one of the largest volcanic craters on earth.
What you'll do
- Swim with sea turtles on multiple snorkelling outings
- See giant tortoises up close in their natural habitat
- Watch sea lions lounge around town on Isla Santa Cruz
- Hike a full day to the rim of a major volcanic crater
- Learn about conservation efforts on Isla Santa Cruz
- Take a cooking class for a classic Ecuadorian soup
- Includes a 17km hike over rocky terrain (6-7 hours) — bring proper hiking shoes
- Inter-island travel is by speedboat and can be rough, so consider seasickness medication if you're prone to it
- Snorkelling happens on multiple days and confident swimming is required — there's no alternative activity if you'd rather sit it out
Worth it if you're keen on wildlife, snorkelling, and a well-oiled tour operation. Think twice if you need downtime—eight days feels tight for some.
- Guides consistently described as knowledgeable, charismatic, and genuinely passionate about the islands and animals.
- Wildlife encounters are prolific: sea lions, turtles, giant tortoises, marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies, dolphins, penguins all seen across trips.
- Transfers, logistics, and on-ground coordination run smoothly; nothing feels chaotic or poorly organised.
- Eight days felt rushed to some; travellers suggested adding extra days to explore other islands independently.
