About this trip
Three countries in fifteen days, running from the Guatemalan highlands down to the Pacific coast of El Salvador, with a proper mix of Maya culture, ruins and everyday Central American life along the way.
You'll start among the volcanoes of Lake Atitlan and the markets and old streets of Antigua, then cross into Honduras for the Copan ruins before looping through El Salvador's coffee country and capital to finish on the coast.
It's guided throughout and paced for easy going rather than long slogs, so there's room to take in the culture without feeling rushed.
What you'll do
- Visit handicraft markets and a Maya ceremony in the Guatemalan highlands
- Take in the volcano views around Lake Atitlan
- Tuk-tuk through Antigua and try a freshly made tortilla
- See the UNESCO-listed Copan ruins in Honduras
- Tour a coffee plantation on El Salvador's Ruta de las Flores
- Visit the rainbow-coloured El Rosario church in San Salvador before finishing on the Pacific coast
- Hot, humid climate throughout — carry water, especially on walking tours
- You'll cross international borders between Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, so allow for some waiting around
- A few words of Spanish go a long way with locals, even though your leaders bridge the language gap
