About this trip
Eight days through mainland Greece, guided throughout, taking in the ancient sites and cities that most people come here for. You'll move between Athens, Delphi and Meteora, with a mix of history, food and a few quieter, human moments along the way.
Expect guided walks through major UNESCO sites, a stop to taste local olives and oils, and a visit to an NGO workshop supporting refugees through skills training. Evenings are for slowing down over ouzo and traditional dishes.
This is an easy-paced group trip on public transport, with private or shared room options depending on what you book.
What you'll do
- Guided tour of the Oracle of Delphi in the Sanctuary of Apollo
- Explore the monasteries of Meteora, built atop sandstone pillars
- Taste local olives, oils and tapenade en route to Delphi Valley
- Walk up to the Acropolis, Athens
- Visit NAOMI, an NGO workshop supporting refugees with skills training
- Evening of ouzo and traditional Greek dishes
- You'll travel by public transport, so pack light — you'll need to lift your own luggage and manage stairs and cobbled streets
- Summer temperatures can climb past 40°C, so plan for sun protection, layers and plenty of water if travelling in the warmer months
- European hotel rooms often have two single beds pushed together rather than a true double
Worth it if you value exceptional local guides and cultural depth over rigid schedules. Think twice if you need hand-holding or prefer avoiding public transport during busy periods.
- Guide quality makes or breaks this: Athanasios, Vicky, and Dina elevated the trip with deep local knowledge and genuine cultural insight beyond standard attractions.
- The balance between structured activities and free time is genuinely relaxed, not rushed; hotel locations are central and well-chosen across each stop.
- Athens city bus during peak times gets rammed and hygiene protocols weren't enforced; local knowledge needed for transport logistics works better with a competent guide.
- One reviewer flagged their leader needed more training; experiences clearly vary depending on who's assigned, so guide quality is the real lottery here.
