About this trip
Seven days moving across Portugal from Porto to Lisbon, built entirely around what you eat and drink along the way. You'll try iconic dishes, local wines and family-run producers rather than just ticking off sights.
The route runs from Porto's tasting scene through the Douro Valley vineyards and rural homestays in the Coa Valley, down to olive oil country in Marvao, finishing with market stalls and cooking in Lisbon. It's a food-first way to see a real cross-section of the country.
Guided throughout and set up for easy pace, with meals and tastings doing a lot of the storytelling.
What you'll do
- Tasting tour of Porto, including the francesinha sandwich and fortified wine
- Picnic among the vineyards of the Douro Valley
- Homestay dinner cooked with a local family in the Coa Valley
- Meet an olive oil producer in Marvao
- Pastel de nata cooking class in Lisbon
- Browse Mercado da Ribeira and try ginjinha cherry liqueur
- Hotel rooms are often on the small side, though usually centrally located
- Travelling as a couple — expect twin beds pushed together rather than a true double in most hotels
Worth it if you want authentic food and cultural discovery led by knowledgeable guides. Think twice if you're sensitive to pace, alcohol-focused dining, or need detailed food education.
- Small group access to places you'd never find alone, with a guide handling logistics so you actually relax.
- Guide quality varies significantly; Ana Cristina stood out as genuinely excellent and attentive to group comfort.
- Final night Fado dinner was poor quality food despite advance warning; pace feels relentless with minimal downtime.
- Guide's rapid Portuguese pronunciation and fast-paced directions in Lisbon left some travellers confused afterwards.
