About this trip
A week moving through Portugal's different faces, from fairy-tale palaces to river valleys to Roman ruins, with a small group and a guide handling the logistics.
You start in Sintra and Cascais, then head north through Óbidos and Aveiro to Porto, out into the Douro Valley for a slower few days among the vineyards, and south again via Coimbra and Tomar to finish in Évora and Lisbon.
It's an easy-paced, fully guided trip with private rooms throughout, built around seeing a lot of Portugal without having to plan any of it yourself.
What you'll do
- Explore Pena Palace in Sintra
- Taste ginjinha inside the walled town of Óbidos
- Glide through Aveiro's canals by moliceiro boat
- Visit a traditional Port cellar in Porto
- Cruise the terraced vineyards of the Douro Valley
- See the Chapel of Bones and Roman ruins in Évora
- Fully guided throughout, so you're not left to navigate on your own
- Private rooms rather than shared dorms
- Easy pace, though the itinerary covers a lot of different towns across the week
Worth it if you value expert local guides, curated off-the-beaten-path experiences, and small-group camaraderie. Think twice if you need flexibility or want to travel independently.
- Guides consistently mentioned by name (Catarina, Tony, Fuego) for genuine historical knowledge and local connections.
- Hotels in walkable locations with excellent breakfasts; multiple reviewers praised accommodation quality and proximity to restaurants.
- Unique experiences like olive oil farm tastings and hidden local spots you'd genuinely miss on a large coach tour.
- Small group dynamics heavily praised; tour quality depends partly on who you travel with, which is out of the operator's control.
