Queenstown Southern Loop

Six days through the South Island's quieter corners, starting and ending in Queenstown. You'll spend time on the water at Milford Sound, walk the cliffs of the Catlins, and cross to Stewart Island in search of kiwi in the wild.

The pace mixes activity with downtime, so there's room to actually take in Fiordland's scale rather than just tick it off. These are places fewer travellers make it to, which is much of the point.

Guided throughout, with a good level of mobility needed for the walking sections.

What you'll do

• Cruise the still waters of Milford Sound in Fiordland National Park
• Hike to coastal caves along the rugged Catlins coastline
• Cross to Stewart Island and listen for kiwi calls after dark
• Take in the shores of Lake Wakatipu, the South Island's largest lake
• Explore lesser-visited stretches of Otago most itineraries skip
