Turkey Highlights

Start & end in Istanbul 8 days Up to 16

About this trip

Eight days from Istanbul to Cappadocia and back, covering some of Turkey's biggest historical and natural landmarks in a fairly tight loop.

You start in Istanbul with its mosques and bazaars, head to the WWI battlefields at Gallipoli, then down to the Aegean coast for ancient Ephesus. An overnight train carries you inland to Konya before you reach Cappadocia's cave dwellings and balloon-dotted skies, finishing back in Istanbul.

Transport is a mix of public and private vehicles, including some long journeys and an overnight train, which keeps costs and pace efficient but means less time lingering in any one place.

What you'll do

  • Explore the Blue Mosque, Suleymaniye Cami and the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul
  • Visit the WWI battlefields of Gallipoli
  • Wander the ancient ruins of Ephesus on the Aegean Coast
  • Take an overnight train to Konya
  • See the cave dwellings and hot air balloons of Cappadocia
Good to know
  • Fast-paced trip covering a lot of ground in eight days
  • You'll carry your own bags on and off local trams and trains, including over some cobblestone streets
  • Time in Istanbul is limited — worth adding extra nights before or after if you want to explore it properly
