About this trip
This ten-day route runs south to north across Vietnam, from the buzz of Ho Chi Minh City to the capital, Hanoi. You'll cover serious ground, much of it overland including overnight trains, taking in the country's landscapes, history and food along the way.
Expect a mix of transport and textures: paddling the Mekong Delta, riding tuk-tuks through villages, cruising Ha Long Bay, walking the car-free lanes of Hoi An, and touring Hue's imperial sites from the back of a motorbike. A local leader guides you through it all, with plenty of chances to eat and travel the way locals do.
This is a trip built around covering distance and getting close to daily life, rather than lingering in one place.
What you'll do
- Paddle through the waterways of the Mekong Delta
- Explore villages by tuk-tuk
- Cruise the World Heritage-listed waters of Ha Long Bay
- Walk the car-free streets of Hoi An
- Tour Hue's imperial sites by motorbike, driven by professionals
- Fast-paced and distance-heavy, including overnight trains
- Accommodation and amenities are shared and basic
- Alternative transport can be arranged in Hue if you'd rather not ride on a motorbike
Worth it if you want efficient coverage of Vietnam's highlights with strong guides. Think twice if you dislike long bus days or prefer detailed pre-trip itineraries.
- Guides Ha, Yuth, and Ashley were standout highlights—knowledgeable, welcoming, and genuinely made travellers feel at home.
- Itinerary covers a huge amount of Vietnam efficiently; families and mixed-age groups report great experiences together.
- Multiple hours daily on a bus is non-negotiable; not suitable if you prefer slower travel or driving fatigue bothers you.
- Daily excursion options are limited; itinerary lacks detail upfront, so you'll need to self-plan add-ons with guide help.
