About this trip
Twelve days through the Western Balkans, covering the well-known highlights alongside quieter corners of North Macedonia and Albania that most itineraries skip. You will walk old city walls, wander alleyways that have stood since antiquity, and get a real sense of how these countries connect and differ.
The route moves through Croatia, Montenegro, Albania and North Macedonia, taking in coastal towns, mountain scenery and lake views along the way. It is a fully guided group trip, with a mix of city walking and longer overland travel between stops.
What you'll do
- Walk the city walls of Dubrovnik
- Explore the UNESCO-listed old town of Kotor
- Cruise Lake Ohrid
- Wine tasting in Roshnik
- Browse a local market in Skopje
- You will carry your own luggage at times, including up stairs and over cobblestones, so pack light
- Summer temperatures can exceed 40°C, so sun protection, layers and water are essential
- Group travel is by private vehicle with some long driving days between stops, broken up by stops along the way
Worth it if you value small-group dynamics and expert local guides. Think twice if you expect 'comfort' standards or want input on itinerary pacing.
- Tour guides Bashkim and Flutra consistently praised for deep local knowledge and professionalism throughout the trip.
- Small group size fostered genuine connections between travellers, with most activities included rather than optional.
- Multiple reviewers felt accommodation and inclusions fell short of 'comfort' trip standards despite that classification.
- Itinerary pacing divisive; some wanted longer in certain cities, others felt stops unbalanced or skippable.
