About this trip
This 17-day trip runs the length of Vietnam, pairing the country's history and culture with a proper stretch of beach time at the end. You move from the old quarters of Hanoi down through central Vietnam's imperial towns and war history, before finishing on Phu Quoc Island.
Expect a mix of cities, countryside and coast: a night on a junk boat in Halong Bay, temple visits and river trips in Hoi An and Hue, the Cu Chi Tunnels and Mekong Delta near Ho Chi Minh City, then three days with nothing much to do but sit on the sand.
It's a full itinerary with a lot of ground covered, so you'll be based somewhere different most nights until you reach Phu Quoc, where the pace finally drops.
What you'll do
- Overnight on a traditional junk boat among the limestone cliffs of Halong Bay
- Walk the Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills near Hoi An
- Explore the UNESCO-listed Champa ruins at My Son Sanctuary
- Visit Hue's Imperial Citadel and cruise the Perfume River
- Descend into the Cu Chi Tunnels and cruise the Mekong Delta
- Two free days to relax on the beaches of Phu Quoc Island
- Fast-paced through the first two weeks — you change location frequently before slowing down on Phu Quoc
- Involves an internal flight from Hue/Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc Island
- Suits travellers who want both cultural sightseeing and proper beach downtime in one trip
Worth it if you value seamless logistics and knowledgeable local guides. Think twice if you need flexibility—the schedule is set, though they'll accommodate requests.
- Operations manager Danny handles 2am airport delays and all logistics without fuss; guides like Rose navigate typhoons without missing highlights.
- Local English-speaking guides provide genuine cultural detail; Halong Bay sunrise and Hoi An's lanterns genuinely memorable; War Remnants Museum worth hours.
- Hanoi is described as 'mad' and chaotic; Ho Chi Minh City felt overly western to some; pool days added at end suggest pacing can feel rushed.
- Accommodation quality varies by hotel; Movenpick Phu Quoc and Bakhan Village praised, but Ho Chi Minh location had issues resolved by staff.
