Vietnam Odyssey: A 14-day journey through history, culture, & natural beauty

Hanoi → Ho Chi Minh City 14 days Up to 12

About this trip

Fourteen days across Vietnam, taking you from the packed streets of Hanoi down to the Mekong Delta, with the limestone karsts of Halong Bay and the old trading ports of Hoi An and Hue along the way.

You'll move between city, coast, and countryside — wandering Hanoi's Old Quarter, cruising past Halong Bay's cliffs, cycling or boating through rice country, and getting a feel for Vietnam's layered history from the Nguyen Dynasty to more recent decades.

It's a full itinerary with a lot of ground covered, built around good food, local life, and a mix of culture and scenery rather than one single focus.

What you'll do

  • Explore Hanoi's Old Quarter and visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum
  • Overnight cruise through Halong Bay's limestone cliffs and caves
  • Tour Tam Coc and Mua Cave near the ancient capital of Hoa Lu
  • Wander the UNESCO-listed old town of Hoi An and cruise the Thu Bon River
  • Visit Hue's Citadel and learn about the Nguyen Dynasty
  • Take a boat trip through the Mekong Delta's floating markets
Good to know
  • A long, itinerary-packed trip that shifts location often — expect a fast pace with a new city or region every few days
  • Mix of city sightseeing, boat trips, and countryside stops, so good for travellers who want variety over lingering in one place
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you value seamless organisation, diverse Vietnam highlights, and flexible operators. Think twice if guide English quality is crucial or you want authentic off-beaten experiences over curated stops.

  • Legend Travel's organisation and communication exceptional; Danny notably flexible rescheduling visa and early departure issues.
  • Guide English varies significantly by location; Hanoi guide had very limited English and poor commentary between sites.
  • Mai Chau itinerary sends you to Bakhan village resort, not the Lonely Planet Mai Chau destination; nothing much to do there.
  • Ba Na Hills is crowded tourist mill with fake European structures; scenic Hoi An-Hue drive stops favour driver/guide food stops, not photo opportunities.
