About this trip
Eleven days that move from Vietnam's two biggest cities to the water and karsts of Halong Bay, then finish on the beaches of Phu Quoc. It's a broad introduction to the country — history and street life in the south, old-quarter charm in the north, then time to slow down by the sea.
You'll cover a lot of ground: Ho Chi Minh City's wartime history and food scene, a slower-paced Mekong Delta river trip, Hanoi's Old Quarter, and two days aboard a junk boat cruising Halong Bay. The last three days are unstructured beach time on Phu Quoc before flying back to Ho Chi Minh City to head home.
What you'll do
- Visit the War Remnants Museum and Cu Chi Tunnels in Ho Chi Minh City
- Take a riverboat trip through the Mekong Delta and visit local villages
- Wander Hanoi's Old Quarter and see the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum
- Spend two days on a traditional junk boat cruising Halong Bay, with caves and swimming
- Relax for three days on the beaches of Phu Quoc Island
- Covers a lot of the country in a short time, with an internal flight to Phu Quoc
- Mixes structured sightseeing early on with genuine downtime on the beach at the end
- Starts and ends in Ho Chi Minh City
Worth it if you value flexibility, knowledgeable guides, and reliable logistics. Think twice if you need group continuity or want authentic riverside immersion.
- Guide quality genuinely exceptional; Danny and Toni went above and beyond, from motorbike rides to shopping trips.
- Group composition changes daily—you'll rarely see the same travellers twice, isolating solo travellers at dinners.
- Mekong Delta tour disappoints; expect a quick visit, not the riverside life and floating markets some anticipated.
- Non-Legend freelance guides vary wildly; one Hanoi guide was disengaged, spoke poor English, skipped proper restaurant lunch.
