About this trip
This 14-day tour runs the length of Vietnam, from the karst islands of the north down to the Mekong Delta in the south, taking in Hanoi, Sapa, Hue, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City along the way.
Expect a mix of history, landscape, and daily life: an overnight cruise among Halong Bay's limestone cliffs, a trek through Sapa's rice terraces and ethnic minority villages, the old trading town of Hoi An, and the imperial sites of Hue. The trip closes in the south with the Cu Chi Tunnels and a boat trip through the Mekong Delta's floating markets.
It's a broad introduction to the country rather than a deep dive into any one region, with guides, accommodation, and transport arranged throughout.
What you'll do
- Overnight cruise among the limestone cliffs of Halong Bay
- Trek between Lao Chai and Ta Van villages in Sapa
- Wander Hoi An's old town and take a boat on the Thu Bon River
- Visit Hue Citadel and the royal tombs of the former imperial capital
- Explore the Cu Chi Tunnels used during the Vietnam War
- Cruise the Mekong Delta and visit its floating markets
- Covers the full length of Vietnam, so you'll change base regularly and spend real time in transit between regions
- Mixes city sightseeing with rural trekking and river travel, so pack for both
Worth it if you want a well-paced cultural overview with strong local guides and excellent food. Think twice if you need reliable 4-5 star hotel standards or seamless logistics.
- Mr Danny and local guides consistently praised for knowledge, friendliness, and detailed pre-trip planning.
- Itinerary brilliantly balances big cities, villages, nature, and history with genuine free time to explore independently.
- Hotel standards don't match star ratings; dirty rooms, ants in Hanoi's Grand Cititel, cheapest rooms in 5-star hotels booked.
- Logistical hiccups: airport pickups missed, guides hard to spot in crowds, some guides less fluent in English than others.
