About this trip
This is an overland road trip from Lusaka, Zambia's capital, down to Livingstone, the country's adventure hub, with commentary on board and a couple of stopovers built into the two-day drive.
Once in Livingstone you shift from travel days into activity days, including a game drive and rhino walk in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, home to elephant, buffalo and white rhino.
It's a straightforward way to see the southern circuit of Zambia by road and end up somewhere built for adventure activities, near Victoria Falls.
What you'll do
- Overland drive from Lusaka to Livingstone with stopover excursions along the T-1 and T-2 highways
- Game drive in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park in an open 4x4 with a safari guide
- Rhino walk safari on foot in search of white rhino
- Wildlife spotting including elephant and buffalo
- Time in Livingstone, gateway to Victoria Falls
- Departs three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays
- The Lusaka to Livingstone leg takes two days on the road, with stops along the way rather than a direct drive
- Partially guided — expect a mix of overland travel and guided activities once in Livingstone
Worth it if you value knowledgeable, attentive guides and cultural immersion over luxury accommodation. Think twice if you need consistently high-standard lodging or extensive wildlife viewing.
- Guides (Fines, Mark, Doreen, Alick) genuinely stand out—knowledgeable, flexible, thoughtful about dietary needs, and deeply connected to local history.
- Most accommodations are poor quality: old, poorly maintained, unclean, with broken air-con and showers—except Choma and Cardinal Adams lodges.
- Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park wildlife viewing disappoints; rhino-focused with limited other animals. River safari and Victoria Falls are genuinely excellent.
- Cultural attractions (museums, villages) interesting but limited in scope; pre-booking hotel payments directly to establishments could avoid check-in issues.
