About this trip
Fifteen days moving across Sri Lanka, from ancient cities to hill country tea estates to national parks and the south coast. You start in Negombo and work through Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa before the wildlife-heavy middle stretch and a run down to the beaches.
The pace is full — ancient ruins, elephants, a rock fortress, temples, tea country, hiking, two national parks and whale watching all feature. It suits people who want to see as much of the country as possible in one go rather than settle into one region.
There's a village visit for a more everyday look at Sri Lankan life alongside the big sights, and a private tour upgrade if you'd rather not travel as a group.
What you'll do
- Explore the ancient capitals of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa
- Spot wild elephants in Minneriya National Park
- Climb or photograph Sigiriya rock fortress
- Visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy
- Walk Horton Plains and see tea country around Nuwara Eliya
- Look for leopards in Yala National Park and go whale watching in Mirissa
- Partially guided — expect some sections with more independence than others
- Covers a lot of ground in 15 days with frequent changes of base
- Includes wildlife parks, hiking and beach time, so suits travellers who want variety over a single focus
Worth it if you want a well-organised cultural and wildlife mix with genuinely excellent guides. Think twice if you prefer a relaxed pace—the itinerary is packed, especially early on.
- Guide quality is the real difference-maker. Shalu, Sampath, and Gayan went well beyond standard—adapting routes for weather, spotting wildlife on the fly, suggesting off-trail spots.
- Covers genuine variety in two weeks: Sigiriya Rock climb, ancient ruins at Polonnaruwa and Kandy, tea plantations, leopards and elephants on safari, sea turtle nesting beach.
- First week is genuinely full-on content-wise. One traveller had to cut activities to avoid burnout despite seeing plenty. Early starts and long travel days are the norm.
- Day 13 itinerary flagged as poor planning: pointless Mirissa-Bentota round trip followed by same route again the next day. Worth requesting adjustments upfront.
