About this trip
Ten days across Morocco's imperial cities and out to the Sahara, starting and built around Marrakech. You'll move through Rabat, Meknes and Fes before crossing the Atlas Mountains to Merzouga on the edge of the desert.
It's a mix of history and landscape — Andalusian architecture, old medinas, and French colonial-era streets, followed by Berber villages and the quiet of the dunes. The pace eases once you reach the desert, with time built in to just be there.
Expect markets, mountains and a proper change of scenery from city to sand, guided throughout.
What you'll do
- Walk the medinas of Fes and Meknes
- See the imperial architecture of Rabat
- Cross the Atlas Mountains through Berber territory
- Spend time in the desert village of Merzouga
- Sit down to traditional tagines along the way
- City-heavy first half followed by a slower, more relaxed stretch in the desert
- Fully guided throughout, suited to those who'd rather not plan logistics themselves
Worth it if you're keen on desert landscapes, authentic riads, and can handle long driving days. Think twice if you want guaranteed group dynamics, all advertised activities included, or prefer slower-paced exploration.
- Desert camp sunrise, Dades Valley setting, and riad stays in Marrakech and Fez genuinely memorable and well-chosen.
- Advertised sandboarding in Merzouga and some listed destinations weren't included; itinerary gaps weren't communicated in advance.
- Some days involve 9 hours driving for minimal activity; group sizes 1-6 mean you might travel solo despite marketing 'new friends' angle.
- Guide Ayoub warm and professional but occasionally drove significantly over speed limits on long stretches.
