About this trip
A single day out to Akagera National Park in the northeast of Rwanda, where the Akagera River feeds a chain of lakes, papyrus swamps and rolling savannah.
You're picked up early for the drive out, then spend the bulk of the day on a game drive across the park's plains and highlands, looking out for elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, lions and the reintroduced rhinos.
It's a long day built around one core activity, so the pace is more about steady game viewing than ticking off a checklist.
What you'll do
- Game drive across Akagera's savannah plains, around 5 to 6 hours
- Look out for elephants, zebras, giraffes and buffaloes
- Chance to spot lions and the park's reintroduced rhinos
- Views over Lake Ihema and the surrounding papyrus swamps and lakes
- Early start — pickup around 5:30am
- Roughly 2.5 hours drive each way to reach the park office
- A full day trip rather than an overnight stay in the park
