About this trip
A ten-day loop through Turkey's history and landscapes, starting and finishing in Istanbul. You move by coach between some of the country's biggest sites, from ancient battlefields to travertine terraces to cave country.
Expect a mix of old-world city wandering and proper ancient history — Troy, Ephesus, Gallipoli — alongside the strange volcanic scenery of Cappadocia, where cave homes and underground cities take over from ruins.
It's a guided, group-paced tour rather than a slow explore, built for people who want to cover a lot of ground and see the headline sights without organising the logistics themselves.
What you'll do
- Wander Istanbul's Old City and its Ottoman and Byzantine landmarks
- Visit the WW1 battlefields and memorials at Gallipoli
- Walk the ruins of ancient Troy
- Explore the well-preserved ancient city of Ephesus
- See the white travertine terraces of Pamukkale
- Explore Cappadocia's cave dwellings, underground cities and fairy chimneys, with an optional hot air balloon ride
- Coach-based tour with a lot of ground covered — expect regular travel days between stops
- Hot air balloon flight over Cappadocia is offered as an optional extra rather than guaranteed inclusion
Worth it if you love Turkish history and sites with a great guide. Think twice if you're budget-conscious about hidden costs and expect luxury hotels.
- Cash payment demand in Euros mid-tour felt like a hidden cost with poor explanation; currency conversion was expensive.
- Guides Esra, Gurkan, and Lale consistently praised as knowledgeable, cheerful, and genuinely invested in group happiness.
- Despite '10 days' marketing, realistic tour is 8 days; two days involve long drives with minimal activity or stops.
- Early starts and lengthy driving days not flagged upfront; Cappadocia hotel food poor, some hotels don't match 4-star claims.
