About this trip
Two countries in fourteen days, running from Cambodia's temple heartland to Vietnam's length from south to north. You start among the ancient stone of Siem Reap before moving on to Phnom Penh, then cross into Vietnam to work your way up through Ho Chi Minh City, Hue, Hoi An and Hanoi, finishing on the water in Halong Bay.
It's a proper overview trip — history, culture, cities and coast all in one route, with the pace to match. Expect a lot of ground covered and a new place to get your bearings in every few days.
The mix of sites is heavy on the 20th-century history of the region alongside the older heritage, so you come away with a fuller picture of both countries, not just the postcard version.
What you'll do
- Explore the ancient temple complex at Angkor in Siem Reap
- Visit the Royal Palace and the Killing Fields in Phnom Penh
- Descend into the Cu Chi tunnels and cruise the Mekong near Ho Chi Minh City
- Wander the former imperial capital of Hue
- Take in the old trading town of Hoi An
- Cruise the emerald waters of Halong Bay
- Fast-paced — you cover two countries and seven main stops in fourteen days
- Partially guided, so some days run with a guide and others more independently
- Heavy on history, including sobering sites like the Killing Fields and Cu Chi tunnels
Worth it if you want seamless Southeast Asia immersion with excellent guides and pre-planned activities. Think twice if you need luxury hotels throughout—quality varies.
- Staff like Rosie, Edna, and Thang respond quickly to queries and sort logistics so you don't have to.
- Guides are genuinely knowledgeable; drivers punctual. Itinerary balances temples, cooking classes, boat trips, and downtime effectively.
- Hotel quality inconsistent—some excellent, others borderline. Don't assume all 14 nights meet the same standard.
- Group handles dietary requirements and accessibility needs without fuss; itinerary has plenty of varied activity types.
