Amazon Lodge Cuyabeno Reserve

Start & end in Cuyabeno Wildlife Preserve 4 days Up to 36

About this trip

Four days in the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, one of the Amazon's most biodiverse corners, based at a lodge reached by canoe through flooded forest. This is a slow, guided immersion in the jungle rather than a checklist tour.

Days centre on canoe trips through the reserve, wildlife spotting by day and night, and a swim in a jungle lagoon as the sun goes down. You'll also spend time with the Siona community, hearing directly how they've lived in this part of the Amazon for generations.

The lodge handles the basics well — private bathroom, all meals, and a bilingual naturalist guide (English and Spanish) leading daily excursions — so you can focus on being out on the water and in the forest.

What you'll do

  • Canoe through flooded forest in the Cuyabeno reserve
  • Swim in a jungle lagoon at sunset
  • Spot caimans, monkeys and pink river dolphins
  • Night wildlife-spotting excursion by canoe
  • Visit the Siona indigenous community
Good to know
  • Wildlife sightings depend on the reserve and season, not guaranteed to order
  • Days are structured around guided canoe excursions rather than free time
  • Suits those happy with a slower, nature-focused pace over a short break

What travellers actually say

Worth it if you're keen on wildlife spotting and don't mind rough travel to get there. Think twice if budget's tight—transport and lodge costs run steep.

  • Guides consistently spot animals you'd miss; Romulo and Abdullah earned genuine praise for knowledge.
  • Ten-hour bus journey on bad roads with aggressive honking; transport costs nearly £60 each way.
  • Lodge rooms stay surprisingly clean daily; spacious, riverside setting with forest sounds at night.
  • Prices run 50–80€ per person above typical tours for the distance; factor this before booking.
