Skye, The Highlands & Loch Ness - from Edinburgh

Start & end in Edinburgh 3 days Up to 33

About this trip

A three-day coach circuit out of Edinburgh that takes in some of Scotland's best-known Highland scenery on the way to and from the Isle of Skye. Expect long, scenic drives broken up by stops at lochs, glens and castles, with time to get out and walk at the more dramatic spots.

The route runs north through Loch Lomond and Glencoe, over to Skye via the Five Sisters of Kintail, then back through Fort Augustus and along Loch Ness before returning to Edinburgh via Pitlochry. It's a good option if you want a broad taste of the Highlands without organising the driving yourself.

What you'll do

  • Walk part of the Glencoe valley, site of the 1692 MacDonald massacre
  • Visit Eilean Donan Castle
  • See the Old Man of Storr and Kilt Rock on Skye
  • Stop at Dunvegan Castle
  • Travel along the shores of Loch Ness
  • Pass Ben Nevis and stop in Fort William
Good to know
  • Fast-paced by nature — this covers a lot of ground in three days with time on the coach between stops
  • Easy going physically, with short walks rather than serious hikes
  • Partially guided, so some stops are on your own
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want hassle-free Highlands and Skye with genuinely excellent guides and reliable pickup. Think twice if you're booking last-minute, need flexibility, or are solo and can't afford unexpected changes.

  • Guide quality is consistently exceptional—Andrew, Dave, Alex, Eoan all praised for storytelling, humour, local knowledge and going off-script to show hidden gems.
  • Tours cancelled 3 days before departure with minimal notice; company demanded pre-booked accommodation and restaurants but offered no refund protection or adequate support when cancelled.
  • Late arrivals face abandonment—solo traveller left behind at pickup, forced to pay £99 Uber to catch coach; staff showed zero flexibility or duty of care.
  • Well-paced itinerary with regular stops; no more than 1-hour driving stretches keeps fatigue low across 3 days.
