About this trip
Fourteen days moving through China's historic north, the karst landscapes of the south and the modern skyline of Shanghai, in a small group with a fixed itinerary that takes care of the logistics.
You start in Beijing and Xian for the big historic sights, then head south to Zhangjiajie and Guilin for a change of pace and scenery, before finishing in Shanghai.
It is designed to be easy to join solo, with a straightforward pace suited to families and first-time visitors to China.
What you'll do
- Walk a section of the Great Wall
- Explore the Forbidden City in Beijing
- See the Terracotta Warriors in Xian
- Take in the sandstone peaks of Zhangjiajie
- Cruise or view the karst scenery around Guilin
- End the tour in Shanghai
- Small group format, suited to solo travellers
- Covers a lot of ground over 14 days across five cities
- Easy-paced and guided throughout, good for families
Worth it if you value exceptional scenery, attentive pre-trip support, and knowledgeable guides. Think twice if you need a leisurely pace, consistent guide quality, or smooth logistical execution.
- Jennifer and the office team are genuinely responsive and proactive, solving problems like cancelled train bookings on the fly.
- Most local guides (Lili, Regina, David, Sisi, Summer, Tiffany, Michelle) are knowledgeable, go beyond itinerary, and provide proper assistance through security and trains.
- Guide quality is wildly inconsistent. Some speak poor English, skip itinerary items, or lack organisation; one wouldn't take group to Bund despite being scheduled.
- Hectic pace with late-night flights, early airport drops (5 hours before flights), long first days (11 hours), and inefficient hotel pickups meant some skipped scheduled activities for rest.
