About this trip
A quick fly-in trip from Istanbul to Cappadocia, built around the region's rock-cut history and landscapes. You spend a night in a cave hotel and have a local guide take you through the open-air museum, valleys and underground cities that define the area.
Alongside the sightseeing there's a go at pottery making and a proper Turkish meal at a local restaurant, plus the option to add a hot air balloon flight if you want the classic Cappadocia view from above.
What you'll do
- Walk among the fairy chimneys of Devrent Valley and Pasabag
- Visit the Goreme Open Air Museum and its early Christian cave churches
- See the rock-cut houses and churches of Cavusin
- Descend into one of the region's underground cities
- Try your hand at local pottery making
- Optional hot air balloon flight over the valleys
- Just 2 days, so the pace is brisk with flights to and from Istanbul built in
- Partially guided — the core sites are led by a local guide, with some free time
- Balloon flight is optional and not automatically included
Worth it if you want an authentic Cappadocia glimpse with a stellar guide. Think twice if you need more than 2 days or struggle with afternoon heat on uphill walks.
- Guides like Umit and Hatice are genuinely exceptional—knowledgeable, warm, and go beyond the itinerary with personal suggestions.
- Cave hotel is authentically lovely; meals and logistics (transport, pickups) are well-organised and stress-free throughout.
- Goreme Open Air Museum uphill climb scheduled post-lunch in peak heat caused several guests to skip it halfway through.
- Two days barely scratches Cappadocia; reviewers consistently mention wishing they'd stayed longer to explore properly.
