About this trip
Seven days through Norway's fjord country, travelling by train, panoramic railway and ferry rather than coach, so you get to watch the landscape change from the window seat rather than a motorway.
The route takes in fjords, waterfalls, a glacier and mountains alongside city and coastal culture, including traces of Viking history, with the pace left largely up to you.
This is self-guided and private, so you move at your own speed, choose how to fill your leisure time in each place, and return to a private room each night.
What you'll do
- Cruise or view Norway's fjords
- Ride a panoramic railway route through the mountains
- Cross the region by ferry between coastal stops
- See a glacier up close
- Explore Norwegian city and coastal culture at your own pace
- Take in traces of Viking history along the way
- No coaches are used, so you travel by train and ferry throughout — pack light as you'll be moving your own bags
- Self-guided format, so you explore each stop independently rather than with a guide
- Easy pace, with time built in for leisure rather than a packed itinerary
Worth it if you value stunning scenery, quality hotels and self-guided flexibility. Think twice if you need constant guided structure or want to avoid admin hiccups.
- Flåm train, fjord cruises and Balestrand consistently praised as genuinely magical highlights.
- Self-guided format with optional excursions lets you control pace; upgraded hotels excellent, breakfasts memorable.
- Oslo hotel staff confusion over bookings and luggage transfers; two different itineraries sent to one group.
- Excursion pricing charged adults for children under 16; Bergen airport bus voucher had wrong platform listed.
