About this trip
Eight days moving through five of Rajasthan's best-known cities, from the lake city of Udaipur to the desert outpost of Jaisalmer and on to Bikaner and Jaipur. Expect forts, palaces, temples and markets, with the pace shifting from hilltop citadels to open desert.
The route takes in a camel safari in the Thar Desert, a change of scenery that breaks up the run of cities and gives you a night under different skies. Guided throughout, so the history and context of each stop come with someone to explain them.
What you'll do
- Walk the lakeside old city of Udaipur
- Explore Mehrangarh Fort above Jodhpur's blue rooftops
- Ride camels into the Thar Desert dunes near Jaisalmer
- See the fort and old town of Bikaner
- Visit Jaipur's City Palace and Amber Fort
- Covers five cities in eight days, so you're changing base often
- Rated easy, suited to travellers who want guided sightseeing without physical strain
- Works well over Christmas and New Year if that's when you're travelling
Worth it if you book with experienced operators like VWI or Welcome Rajasthan and upgrade hotels. Think twice if you're budget-conscious—default accommodation can be genuinely subpar.
- Guides like Ashish Ji, Abdul Uncle, and Parameshwar Swami Ji deliver genuine historical depth and cultural warmth consistently.
- Transport reliability is solid: spacious, clean vehicles with punctual, safe drivers across all five cities daily.
- Default 3-star hotels outside Jaipur are often substandard; upgrading costs extra but essential for comfort.
- Tour operator responsiveness varies; one traveller's upgrade request went unacknowledged despite additional payment.
