About this trip
Six days across northern Vietnam, moving from the streets of Hanoi up to the hill country around Sapa, then back down to cruise Halong Bay. It's a good spread for a first visit — city, mountains, and coast all in one trip.
In Sapa you get out into the countryside rather than just admiring it from a bus: Cat Cat Village, the trek toward Fansipan Peak, and the stilt houses and rice terraces of Lao Chai and Ta Van. Hanoi bookends the trip, giving you time to take in its history before and after the mountains.
The pace is brisk given how much ground you cover, but each stop is short and guided, so you're not left figuring out logistics yourself.
What you'll do
- Explore Hanoi's old streets and history
- Visit Cat Cat Village outside Sapa
- Take on Fansipan Peak
- Walk through Lao Chai and Ta Van villages among stilt houses and rice paddies
- Cruise Halong Bay
- Fast-paced — you cover Hanoi, Sapa, and Halong Bay in six days
- Fully guided throughout, so little to organise yourself
- Suited to families and groups wanting a broad first look at northern Vietnam
Worth it if you value seamless organisation and knowledgeable guides. Think twice if you're claustrophobic or have lots of luggage.
- Tour leader genuinely knowledgeable and friendly; guests felt well looked after throughout.
- Final hotel transfer cramped; luggage stacked front and back, everyone squeezed into one vehicle.
- Halong Bay leg well organised with helpful guide; accommodation comfortable and food good.
- Main transport between cities extremely comfortable, though final leg logistics need tightening.
