Big Five Classic Safari in Tanzania **Sustainable Approach to Travel

Moshi → Kilimanjaro 7 days Up to 6

About this trip

Seven days across Tanzania's Northern Circuit, covering the parks most people picture when they think of an African safari. You travel in a custom 4x4 with an open roof for game viewing, sharing the vehicle with a small group of up to six, so everyone gets a window seat.

The route takes in Lake Manyara, the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire, a mix of grassy plains, crater floor, lakes and canyon country that between them hold a fair shot at spotting all of the Big Five. Meals, accommodation and park entry fees are included throughout.

The operator is a certified Travelife Partner, and many of the parks you visit are also active conservation areas, so your entry fees feed into habitat and wildlife protection. There's room too to take in something of Maasai and other local cultures along the way.

What you'll do

  • Game drives through Lake Manyara National Park
  • Track wildlife across the Serengeti's open plains
  • Descend into Ngorongoro Crater for dense game viewing
  • Spot elephants and baobabs in Tarangire National Park
  • Ride in open-roof 4x4 vehicles built for game spotting
  • Learn about Maasai culture and life in the region
Good to know
  • Small group format with a maximum of six travellers per vehicle, all with window seats
  • Departures run daily, so dates are flexible
  • This is a seat-in-vehicle safari rather than a private one, so you'll share the jeep with other travellers
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want genuinely close Big Five encounters with guides who know their stuff. Think twice if accommodation consistency matters—one lodge notably dropped the service ball.

  • Guides like Nelson, Norah and Athanas are genuinely expert: they navigate terrain brilliantly and know animal behaviour and local culture deeply.
  • Serengeti Lodge and Highview Hotel consistently impressed; accommodations punched above their price point even in remote locations.
  • Springlands Hotel's service quality dropped noticeably by trip's end, creating disappointment after strong early experiences.
  • Entry fees ($100 USD per person) can get tangled with payment receipts; pay ahead but chase confirmation in writing before arrival.
