About this trip
Nine days across Guatemala and Belize, taking in Mayan ruins, colonial towns and Caribbean coast in one go. You start inland among volcanoes and lakes, then cross into Belize for reef and jungle.
Guatemala brings the ruins of Tikal, the colonial streets of Antigua and the volcanic backdrop of Lake Atitlán. Belize shifts the pace to its coast and cayes, with the world's second largest barrier reef and Mayan sites like Caracol and Xunantunich further inland.
It's a partially guided trip, so you'll have some free time to explore alongside the group sections, and the group itself isn't fixed — people join and leave along the way, which keeps things loose rather than locked to one fixed set of travellers.
What you'll do
- Explore the Mayan ruins at Tikal
- Walk the colonial streets of Antigua Guatemala
- Take in the volcanic scenery around Lake Atitlán
- Snorkel or dive off Belize's cayes and coral reef
- Visit the Mayan sites of Caracol and Xunantunich
- Fixed departures only on Tuesdays and Fridays from Guatemala
- Partially guided — expect a mix of guided sections and time to explore on your own
- Group size and makeup can shift during the trip as people join or move on
Worth it if you're flexible with logistics and want solid guides. Think twice if you need detailed pre-trip info or dislike crowded markets.
- Guide Antonio in Antigua was excellent; Lake Atitlán and Tikal delivered as promised.
- Hotel and itinerary details arrive day-of, making advance planning of free time nearly impossible.
- Chichicastenango market is crowded and dirty; manage expectations or ask about alternatives.
- Communication from company is clear once tour starts; drivers and guides handle daily logistics well.
