About this trip
This is a 17-day trip through the South Caucasus built around walking and hiking as much as sightseeing. Expect a mix of city walking tours, mountain hikes and national park routes, linked by vehicle transfers between the main stops.
The pace is active rather than leisurely — you're on your feet a fair amount, covering ground in the mountains as well as through historic towns and sites.
Alongside the hiking there's a strong culture and history thread: ancient palaces, caravanserais, cave towns, fortresses and UNESCO-listed churches, plus wine tasting and a white water rafting stop for good measure.
What you'll do
- Hike to waterfalls and mountain monasteries
- White water rafting
- Wine tasting
- Explore ancient palaces, caravanserais and fortresses
- Visit cave towns and UNESCO World Heritage churches
- City walking tours in major Caucasus destinations
- Physically active trip — daily hiking alongside sightseeing, so a reasonable level of fitness helps
- Mix of on-foot exploration and vehicle transfers between destinations
- Small group, fully guided format throughout
Worth it if you want cultural depth and comfort without logistical stress. Think twice if you need flexibility or speak the local language.
- Small group size (15 people) and thoughtful itinerary balances highlights with downtime for independent exploration.
- Consistently excellent hotels with breakfast included, plus varied local food and special dinners throughout.
- Requires genuine interest in history and culture; tour operator seems to screen for attitude, not just bookings.
- Two weeks covers highlights only; expect to want more time despite comprehensive itinerary.
