About this trip
This three-day trip runs from Ho Chi Minh City down through the Mekong Delta and on into Cambodia by speed boat, giving you a proper look at Vietnam's rice-and-orchard heartland along the way. Expect a lot of water — rivers, canals, floating markets — and villages that still run on the old rhythms.
It's a mix of boat rides, cycling, walking and small local visits, so the pace shifts but stays gentle. Good for a first taste of the region rather than a deep dive, and the Cambodia border crossing by speed boat is the main practical hook of the trip.
What you'll do
- Cruise to the Cai Rang floating market on the Hau River
- Try local fruit with live Vietnamese folk music playing
- Visit a family workshop making coconut candy and rice popcorn
- Cycle and walk through Mekong village streets
- See an ancient house and a Khmer temple
- Explore the mangrove ecosystem of Tra Su Forest
- Partially guided, so some sections are more independent than others
- Involves cycling and walking as well as boat travel, so a reasonable level of mobility helps
- Ends with a speed boat crossing into Cambodia
