About this trip
This one-way overland trip covers the ground between Adelaide and Melbourne in three days, taking the inland route through the Grampians before joining the coast for the Great Ocean Road. It's a good option if you'd rather cover this stretch of Australia with a guide than drive it yourself.
You spend the first stretch in Grampians National Park, based among bushland where kangaroos and cockatoos are a regular sight, with time on the Pinnacles trail and at MacKenzie Falls. From there the route turns south to the Shipwreck Coast, taking in the 12 Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge before the final run along the Great Ocean Road into Melbourne.
It's a fully guided group tour with a steady pace — this is about covering a lot of ground and hitting the big landmarks along the way, rather than lingering in any one spot.
What you'll do
- Hike sections of the Pinnacles trail in Grampians National Park
- See MacKenzie Falls and the views from The Balconies and Boroka lookout
- Look for kangaroos, koalas and emus in the wild
- Stop at Tower Hill Conservation Reserve for Aboriginal culture and nature
- Walk among the rock stacks at the 12 Apostles and the hidden beach at Loch Ard Gorge
- Drive the Great Ocean Road, with a stop at the Historic Memorial Arch
- One-way route from Adelaide to Melbourne, so you'll need onward plans from there
- Fast-paced — three days cover a lot of driving and sightseeing
- Good fit if you want an introduction to the Grampians and Great Ocean Road without self-driving
Worth it if you want knowledgeable guides, varied landscapes, and flexible walk options. Think twice if you're less mobile—minibus seating is cramped.
- Guide quality is consistently exceptional; multiple reviewers praised specific guides for knowledge, enthusiasm, and tailoring walks to group ability.
- Scenery genuinely diverse: white kangaroos, wild koalas, emus, rainforest, and Great Ocean Road coastline all in three days.
- Minibus seating cramped with poor legroom; problematic for those with arthritis or mobility issues on long driving days.
- Day one is a long travel day from Adelaide, but multiple stops provided; finishing day also involves substantial driving.
