About this trip
This three-day overland journey takes you from Melbourne to Adelaide by coach, tracing the Great Ocean Road before cutting inland to the Grampians. It's a guided trip built around big landscapes — coastline, rainforest, ancient volcanic craters and mountain lookouts — with a driver-guide handling the route.
Expect a good mix of short walks, wildlife spotting and photo stops rather than long treks, with comfortable accommodation each night along the way. You'll arrive into Adelaide by early evening on the final day.
What you'll do
- Drive the Great Ocean Road and stop at the Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge
- Walk through rainforest in Great Otway National Park
- Look for whales at Apollo Bay (June to September)
- Visit Tower Hill Conservation Reserve, an old volcanic crater with resident wildlife
- Hike to Pinnacle Lookout and take in Reed's and Boroka Lookouts and MacKenzie Falls in the Grampians
- Spot kangaroos, emus, echidnas and koalas in the wild
- Coach-based trip with a fair amount of driving each day between stops
- Suits families and groups happy with a guided, fixed itinerary rather than free time
Worth it if you love wildlife, scenery and a good guide. Think twice if you need leisurely pacing or premium food stops.
- Guides consistently excellent—Misty, Chris, Jordan, Craig all praised for knowledge, humour, and making groups feel comfortable throughout.
- Three days pack genuine highlights: Great Ocean Road, Grampians, waterfalls, kangaroos in fields at sunset, koalas, diverse birdlife.
- Some stops feel rushed despite guide efforts; food venues underwhelming enough to warrant mention across multiple reviews.
- Itinerary subject to change due to weather or fires; flexibility needed but operators have managed disruptions well.
