About this trip
Three days in Hakone with a transport pass covering buses, mountain trains, cable cars and ropeways, so you're free to move around the region without worrying about tickets or timetables.
This is a self-guided trip. You choose which sights to see and how long to spend at each, building your own route through the hills and lakes below Mt. Fuji.
Good if you like structure around the edges (accommodation, transport, a rough plan) but want to make the actual day-to-day decisions yourself.
What you'll do
- Ride the Hakone Tozan mountain train through forested switchbacks
- Cross Lake Ashi by boat with views towards Mt. Fuji on clear days
- Take the ropeway over the volcanic Owakudani valley
- Use local buses and cable cars to reach viewpoints and hot spring towns at your own pace
- Self-guided — you plan your own days and travel independently between sights
- Mt. Fuji views depend on the weather and aren't guaranteed
- Suits travellers who prefer freedom over a fixed schedule
