About this trip
This 12-day camping safari takes you the length of Namibia, from the game-rich north to the empty, wind-scoured south, sleeping under canvas for most of it. It's a proper overland route — long drives, changing landscapes, and a break from the tents partway through when you reach Swakopmund.
You'll track big game in Etosha, sit out at a floodlit waterhole after dark, and meet Himba families before turning south for the Skeleton Coast, towering dunes at Sossusvlei, and the raw scale of Fish River Canyon.
What you'll do
- Night-time wildlife viewing at Okaukuejo waterhole in Etosha National Park
- Meet and spend time with Himba tribespeople
- See the seal colony at Cape Cross and the wrecks along the Skeleton Coast
- Climb among the world's highest dunes at Sossusvlei and cross the Tropic of Capricorn
- Wander the abandoned diamond town of Kolmanskop near Luderitz
- Stand at the edge of Fish River Canyon, the second-largest canyon on earth
- Mostly camping, with a hotel stay in Swakopmund partway through to recover a bit of comfort
- Long overland travel days connecting the sights, so this suits people happy with a moving itinerary
- Rated moderate rather than easy — expect early starts and basic camp conditions between the towns
Worth it if you want expert guides, daily wildlife encounters, and hassle-free camping logistics. Think twice if you prefer hotel comfort or solo flexibility.
- Guides have encyclopedic knowledge of animals, plants, geology; timing photo stops perfectly for sunrise and sunset light.
- Multiple wildlife sightings daily, including waking to lions roaring; not occasional encounters but regular immersive experiences.
- Small group size and guide-managed logistics eliminates solo travel planning burden; guides handle meals, camps, navigation entirely.
- This is a camping trip with early starts and long travel days; requires comfort with tent accommodation and physical activity.
