About this trip
Eleven days moving through southern Spain and Portugal, tracing layers of history from Phoenician and Roman times through Muslim, Jewish and Christian rule.
The Andalusian half takes you through Seville, Cordoba and Granada for some of the region's landmark heritage sites, before crossing into Portugal for its historic cities and religious sites, including a visit timed around the Fatima procession.
It's an easy-paced, partially guided trip suited to families and groups who want the big cultural landmarks explained rather than a physically demanding itinerary.
What you'll do
- Visit the Alcazar and Cathedral in Seville
- See the Great Mosque of Cordoba
- Explore the Alhambra in Granada
- Attend the candle-lit procession at the Marian Shrine in Fatima
- Wander the university city of Coimbra and the canals of Aveiro
- Stop in Oporto, a UNESCO World Heritage city
- Partially guided, so some sections run with a guide and others give you more freedom
- Easy pace, geared toward sightseeing rather than activity
- Runs over the Christmas and New Year period, so expect festive crowds and closures at some sites
Worth it if you want curated Portugal and Andalusia with solid hotels and guides. Think twice if you're tall or expect an English-speaking group.
- Guides and hotels were consistently excellent; tour company responsive to customizing interests.
- Second leg bus was cramped with poor legroom; problematic for taller travellers.
- Multilingual group with limited English speakers; free time generous but explore cities at night.
- Portugal's towns and historic sites genuinely impressive; first-time Europe experience felt magical.
