About this trip
Three days overland from Marrakech to Fes, with the Sahara at the centre of it. You cross the Atlas Mountains and the desert edge towns before spending a night out among the dunes at Merzouga.
It's a fast way to see a real slice of Morocco's landscape variety without committing a week to it, from mountain passes to kasbahs to open desert.
What you'll do
- Cross the Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass
- Visit kasbahs and desert towns along the route
- Ride camels into the dunes at Merzouga
- Spend a night in a desert camp under the stars
- Arrive in Fes at the end of the route
- A lot of driving is packed into three days, so expect long stretches on the road between stops
- Ends in Fes rather than back in Marrakech, so plan onward travel from there
Worth it if you want a comfortable, well-guided desert introduction with strong local expertise. Think twice if you need budget rock-bottom or prefer independent exploration.
- Guides (Karim, Abdul, Ismael, Rachid) consistently deliver cultural insight and safe driving; treated as individuals, not groups.
- Desert camp accommodation described as super comfortable with perfect service; no roughing it involved here.
- Private tours available but group option exists; confirm group size and dynamics before booking if you prefer intimacy.
- First-timers report no car sickness on long drives, but reviews don't mention actual driving duration or road quality specifics.
