2 Nights Desert Tour from Fes via Desert to Marrakech

Fes → Marrakesh 3 days Up to 17

About this trip

This is a three-day drive from Fes to Marrakech, cutting through the Sahara near Merzouga rather than taking the direct route. A driver collects you from your riad or hotel in Fes and the same vehicle carries you all the way to Marrakech, with stops along the way for the landscapes and sights rather than a packed schedule of activities.

Along the route you pass through the cedar forests above Azrou, where wild monkeys are a regular sight, and down through the Ziz valley towards the desert. From there the road climbs back through the Todgha Gorges before finishing at the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou on the approach to Marrakech.

It suits anyone who wants to see the desert and the Atlas region as part of getting between two cities, rather than booking a separate Fes and a separate Marrakech trip with no link between them.

What you'll do

  • Drive through the mountain town of Ifrane
  • Spot monkeys in the Azrou cedar forest
  • Pass through the Ziz valley towards Merzouga and the Sahara
  • Walk the Todgha Gorges
  • Explore the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou
  • Door-to-door drive from your Fes riad to your Marrakech riad
Good to know
  • Private vehicle and driver throughout, with only partial guiding at the sites
  • Easy pace, but expect long stretches of driving between stops each day
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you value landscape, starry nights, and a knowledgeable guide. Think twice if you dislike early starts, long driving days, or temperature extremes.

  • Guides (Karim, Abdullah, Chouaybe) consistently praised for knowledge, friendliness, safe driving, and flexibility with itinerary adjustments.
  • Desert camp experience delivers: camel rides, dune walks, campfire under unpolluted skies with visible stars, clean tents, tasty food.
  • Expect significant temperature swings: scorching daytime heat, cold nights requiring layers despite simple but adequate camp accommodation.
  • Three-day itinerary covers substantial ground across Atlas mountains and Berber villages; substantial driving involved alongside sightseeing.
