About this trip
Nine days across Jordan that pair the big classic sites with proper hands-on activity: Petra, the Dead Sea and Jerash alongside a Wadi Rum jeep safari, a Bedouin camp night and a wet, scrambly hike through Wadi Mujib.
You start in Amman and the northern town of As-Salt before heading south through the Dana Biosphere Reserve and the Red Sea coast at Aqaba, into the desert at Wadi Rum, then on to Petra via a quieter back-route hike, and finally the Dead Sea and Madaba on the way back north.
It is fully guided throughout, easy-paced overall but with some genuinely active days built in, and geared toward small groups including families who want to see and do rather than just tick off sights.
What you'll do
- Walk the Harmony Trail in As-Salt with a local guide
- Explore Amman's Citadel and Roman Theatre, with a food tasting stop
- Take a jeep safari through Wadi Rum's dunes and rock bridges, then meet a Bedouin shepherd
- Hike the back-route into Petra via Little Petra and the Monastery, away from the main crowds
- Scramble and wade through Wadi Mujib's Siq Trail past small waterfalls
- Float in the Dead Sea and take in Madaba's mosaics, Mt Nebo and Jerash
- Billed as easy but includes some properly active stretches, notably the Wadi Mujib water hike and the Petra back-route trek
- Fully guided small-group format, suited to families as well as solo and group travellers
- Pace shifts region every couple of days until you settle by the Dead Sea near the end
Worth it if you want Petra and Dead Sea with excellent guides and local food. Think twice if you need downtime or prefer leisurely pacing.
- Guide Amer and Riyad genuinely exceptional: cultural insights, flexible itinerary tweaks, best local restaurants and shops.
- Itinerary packed tight; some activities shortened or skipped due to distances and traffic, minimal rest days.
- Petra by Night underwhelming compared to early morning visit; uneven terrain in dim light not worth the hype.
- Small crowds at major sites, excellent homestay experiences with local families, food consistently praised across all reviews.
