Cycling the Cape & Winelands

Start & end in Cape Town 12 days Up to 16

About this trip

This is a 12-day cycling tour around Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula, riding a circular route that takes in mountains, coastline, and wine country by bike.

Expect quiet roads with little traffic, a mix of coastal riding and inland terrain, and stops in wine estates around Stellenbosch. Table Mountain forms a constant backdrop.

It's fully guided and done as a small group, with private rooms included and cycling as the main way you move between places, not just an occasional activity.

What you'll do

  • Ride a circular route around the Cape Peninsula
  • Take in Table Mountain from the saddle
  • Sample wine at Stellenbosch estates
  • Cycle the wild coastline on quiet roads
  • Cross rugged interior terrain
  • Spot local flora and wildlife along the way
Good to know
  • This is a cycling-focused trip — expect consecutive days in the saddle rather than occasional rides
  • Private rooms are included throughout
  • Roads are described as quiet with little traffic, but riders should be comfortable on a bike for extended distances
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you're fit, love hills and wine, and enjoy strong group dynamics. Think twice if you need laundry access, predictable accommodation, or dislike wind and early starts.

  • Guides consistently knowledgeable, attentive to group pace, excellent at organising meals and wine tastings.
  • Trip marketed as moderate but genuinely tough: lots of hills, strong headwinds make descents scary, days are long and exhausting.
  • No laundry for 10 days; accommodation quality ranges from modern to dangerous; pack SA plug adaptor or you're stuck.
  • Every day starts early and includes van transfers; some days backtrack previous routes; bring proper saddle and padded shorts.
