Cycle the Loire Valley

Seven days cycling through the Loire Valley, riding beside the river, through vineyards and past a run of classic chateaux, with a kayak paddle and a wine cruise thrown into the mix.

This is an active trip - up to 60km a day on varied terrain with some hills - but a reasonable fitness level is enough, you don't need to be a serious cyclist. A support vehicle carries luggage and bikes (not tired riders, French rules mean it can't ferry people), and a group leader rides with you throughout.

Nights are spent in hotels ranging from comfortable to basic, all authentic and a decent chance to mix with locals and the rest of the group.

What you'll do

• Cycle alongside the Loire River through the countryside
• Visit a selection of classic chateaux and their gardens
• Ride through vineyards across varied, occasionally hilly terrain
• Kayak on the river
• Sip wine on a small-boat cruise along the Loire
• Sample local food and wine along the way
