About this trip
Fifteen days across Mexico and over the border into Guatemala and Belize, tracing the ground once held by the Aztecs, Zapotecs and Maya. You move between Mexico City's pace, colonial Oaxaca and San Cristobal, and the jungle ruins of Palenque, with tacos and tequila along the way.
This particular departure lands during Dia de los Muertos, so you're in the country for one of its most striking traditions rather than just reading about it afterwards.
It's a coach-based group trip with a guide throughout, moderate pace, and private rooms each night — good for a first proper look at the region without organising the logistics yourself.
What you'll do
- Witness Day of the Dead celebrations during this departure
- Explore Mayan ruins at Palenque and Tikal
- Wander the Zocalo and artisanal markets of Oaxaca and San Cristobal
- Take a boat trip through Sumidero Canyon, watching for wildlife
- Cross overland from Mexico into Guatemala and Belize
- Take in the pace and energy of Mexico City
- Coach travel between stops over 15 days, with several border crossings — expect some long travel days
- Private rooms throughout, so no dorm-sharing
- Booking a Day of the Dead departure means fixed dates around the festival rather than flexible timing
