About this trip
Fifteen days through the Yucatán and into Guatemala, tracing Mayan history from jungle-covered ruins to present-day markets and colonial streets. This is a trip built around the real texture of the region rather than resort life.
You'll visit three major ruin sites — Chichén Itzá, Palenque, and Tikal — with time also set aside for Caribbean coastline and free choice in how you spend your days.
It's a small group trip with a fully guided structure, but with room built in for you to shape parts of the itinerary yourself.
What you'll do
- Explore the ruins at Chichén Itzá
- Walk through the jungle-set temples of Palenque
- Cross into Guatemala to see Tikal
- Wander colonial streets and street markets in the Yucatán
- Spend time on Caribbean white-sand beaches
- Includes free days where you choose your own activities rather than a fixed schedule
- Covers two countries, so factor in the Mexico–Guatemala border crossing
- Private room option available if you'd rather not share
Worth it if you value flexible itineraries and exceptional guides. Think twice if you need reliable pre-trip communication and consistent hotel quality.
- Guides like Ingrid and Irmante genuinely attentive, tailoring activities to group needs and including quieter members.
- G Adventures pre-trip communication failed repeatedly; no airport transfers confirmed despite multiple emails, costing travellers 1500 pesos taxis.
- Hotels in Merida, Flores, and Playa del Carmen had dirty linens, drain smells, and noise; long 9-hour bus days with overcrowded public transport.
- Food costs average 60 CAD daily, well above typical budgets; activities in Guatemala and Belize notably overpriced relative to time spent.
