About this trip
Ten days across China, moving from Hong Kong's dense modern skyline through to the imperial heart of Beijing. It's a fast tour through the country's headline sights, covering huge distances by bullet train and linking together cities that feel like different worlds.
You start in Hong Kong, taking in its mix of high-rise modern life and older traditions, then move inland to Xian and the Terracotta Army before finishing in Beijing among the palaces and the Great Wall.
There's also a slower stretch on the Li River, cruising past limestone stacks and small villages, a break from the cities either side of it.
What you'll do
- Explore Hong Kong's mix of skyscrapers and older traditions
- Cruise the Li River past karst peaks and local villages
- See the Terracotta Warriors and the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda in Xian
- Walk a section of the Great Wall
- Visit Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City in Beijing
- Travel between cities by bullet train
- Covers a lot of ground in 10 days, with long train journeys linking the main stops
- Moderate pace with a fair amount of walking, including at the Great Wall
- Private rooms throughout, in a small group with a guide
Worth it if you want a genuine China intro and flexible guides. Think twice if you need leisurely pacing, varied breakfasts, or want optional costs clarified upfront.
- Heavy travel days between sites; expect fatigue, not relaxation. Come ready to move, not rest.
- Guide Betty reorganised activities on the fly when group preferences changed, creating standout memories.
- Optional activities rack up quickly in cash payments; families should budget extras separately and clarify what's included.
- Chinese breakfast every morning; Western palates may struggle without prior warning about meal consistency.
