Walking Jordan's Spice Trails

Start & end in Amman 8 days Up to 16

About this trip

This is an 8-day walking trip across Jordan that follows old spice trade routes, from the desert plateaus of Wadi Rum to the ancient city of Petra. It's a trip built around being on your feet, covering ground that traders and Nabateans once crossed on foot or camel.

You get two full days to properly explore Petra rather than rushing through, plus a night at a Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum. The pace eases off toward the end with a float in the Dead Sea and time in Amman.

What you'll do

  • Spend two full days exploring the tombs and temples of Petra
  • Trek across the dunes of Wadi Rum on foot
  • Stay at a traditional Bedouin desert camp
  • Float in the Dead Sea and try a mud treatment
  • Explore the city of Amman
Good to know
  • This is a walking and trekking trip, so expect consistent hiking across desert and rocky terrain
  • Two full days at Petra means a slower, deeper look at the site rather than a quick pass-through
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you're fit for serious desert hiking and want authentic Bedouin culture with stellar sights. Think twice if you need rest days or prefer gentler walking.

  • Wadi Rum hikes and camel rides genuinely outstanding; desert expanse and camp facilities both excellent.
  • Petra's mountain monastery walk tough but stunningly beautiful; guides consistently knowledgeable, fun, and informative.
  • Long, demanding hikes throughout (Petra gorge, Wadi Rum); not suitable if you prefer leisurely pacing.
  • Mount Nebo brilliant but reviewers noted an extra hour there would have improved the experience.
