Cape & Dunes Southbound: Desert Camping & Safari Drives

Windhoek → Cape Town 14 days Up to 22

About this trip

Fourteen days moving between South Africa and Namibia, camping your way through desert landscapes and open plains, with a stretch of city life thrown in for contrast.

You'll climb some of the world's highest sand dunes, stand at the edge of Africa's largest canyon, and spend days on safari in Etosha National Park watching for lions, elephants and springbok.

A guide travels with the group throughout, handling logistics so the focus stays on the driving, the camping, and the wildlife.

What you'll do

  • Camp among some of the world's highest sand dunes
  • Visit Africa's largest canyon
  • Game drives through Etosha National Park tracking the big five
  • Time in South Africa's cosmopolitan city streets
  • Wildlife spotting on the move, from elephants to springbok
Good to know
  • This is a camping trip, so expect basic facilities and an outdoor routine most nights
  • A fully guided format with a dedicated tour leader (CEO) handling logistics throughout
  • Long overland distances between South Africa and Namibia are part of the experience
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you're comfortable with long driving days and camping logistics. Think twice if you need flexibility or lots of unstructured exploration time.

  • Guides consistently praised for punctuality, helpfulness, and genuine care for group wellbeing and safety.
  • Expect roughly half each day spent driving between camps with limited exploration time despite spectacular scenery.
  • Optional activities often cost more than initially quoted and quality varies since not all are G Adventures-run.
  • Group atmosphere and shared camping duties create strong bonds, but early starts around 5:30am are common.
