Choquequirao to Machu Picchu Express

Start & end in Cusco 6 days Up to 16

About this trip

A six-day trek that takes in two Incan sites for the price of some serious legwork. Choquequirao is the main draw here — a ruin as extensive as Machu Picchu but far harder to reach, which means you'll walk through it in near-solitude rather than alongside crowds.

The trail climbs and drops through the Andes, cutting through forest and opening onto wide mountain views along the way. It's a demanding route, but the payoff is Incan architecture with hardly anyone else around.

The trek ends with a visit to Machu Picchu itself, so you get both the remote, quiet ruin and the famous one in a single trip.

What you'll do

  • Trek through the Andes to the ruins of Choquequirao
  • Explore the site in relative solitude compared to Machu Picchu
  • Pass through forest and along mountain ridgelines with sweeping valley views
  • Visit Machu Picchu at the end of the trek
Good to know
  • This is a physically demanding trek with significant climbing and descending
  • Choquequirao's remoteness means fewer facilities and fewer other travellers on the trail
  • Six days covers a lot of ground, so expect a fast pace between the two sites
