About this trip
Twelve days through the Andean highlands, taking in the region's biggest archaeological and cultural draws without rushing through them. You'll spend time on Lake Titicaca, in Cusco's old streets, and on the Inca Trail itself, ending at Machu Picchu.
A night in a small village on the lake gives you a proper look at rural highland life, staying with a local family rather than passing through. From there it's on to Cusco to explore before the trek begins in earnest.
The Inca Trail section involves real hiking over mountain passes, multi-day and physical, before you reach Machu Picchu. The trekking is run directly by the operator, which they say means better treatment for porters and more consistent food and equipment along the way.
What you'll do
- Cruise Lake Titicaca
- Homestay in a small highland village
- Wander Cusco's cobblestoned streets
- Hike mountain passes along the Inca Trail
- Arrive at Machu Picchu on foot
- Involves multi-day trekking over mountain passes — some fitness needed
- Treks are run by the operator's own crew rather than a third party
Worth it if you value hassle-free cultural immersion and group camaraderie. Think twice if you need flexibility or want longer to adjust to altitude.
- Pre-trek acclimatisation days in Puno and Cusco genuinely help before the Inca Trail hike.
- Guides consistently praised across reviews; local homestays and Lake Titicaca stays feel genuinely personal.
- Twelve days felt too short for most; plan for wanting to extend, not fit everything in.
- Group dynamics and CEO leadership are make-or-break; you're committed to strangers for two weeks.
