Classic Vietnam: Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City

Hanoi → Ho Chi Minh City 10 days Up to 16

About this trip

This trip runs the length of Vietnam, from the buzz of Hanoi's old quarter down to the fast pace of Ho Chi Minh City, taking in the country's biggest names along the way.

You sail through Halong Bay on a traditional junk boat, wander the old imperial capital of Huế, and spend time in Hoi An before finishing in Saigon. Ten days, a lot of ground covered, and a guide with you throughout.

It's a fully guided group trip with a set route and daily highlights, though there's some free time built in to explore on your own.

What you'll do

  • Cruise the limestone karsts of Halong Bay on a traditional junk boat
  • Explore Hanoi's old quarter
  • Walk the imperial city of Huế
  • Spend time in the old town of Hoi An
  • Experience the pace of modern Ho Chi Minh City
Good to know
  • Fast-paced — ten days covering the length of the country
  • Fully guided throughout, with a leader setting the daily plan
  • Some free time between highlights to do your own thing
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you value knowledgeable local guides and a cohesive small-group vibe. Think twice if you want all activities included in the upfront price.

  • Tour leaders consistently praised as knowledgeable, patient, kind and genuinely funny—clearly make or break the experience.
  • Small group size means travellers actually bond together, creating a genuine shared experience rather than tourist cattle herding.
  • Key excursions like street food tours are optional and extra cost, despite being highlights—budget accordingly beyond the base price.
  • Itinerary hits major sites well with solid logistical planning, but depends entirely on which guide you're assigned.
